San Francisco (SFO) Airport Guide

Things You Will Love at San Francisco Airport

There are many things you will love at the San Francisco airport. One of them is the ease of getting on the internet because it is free at the airport. The airport has many work desks with plugins located near them. If you are having trouble finding a charging station, then head to Terminal 2 because there are more than 400 of them located there. If you are in a hurry, then consider paying for rapid charging at many locations throughout the airport.

There are several delightful places to shop at the airport. SFMOMA is a local store at the airport operated by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and it is worth going there to buy and browse. Greetings from SF is also locally owned, and it is a great place to pick up souvenirs. There are several Ghirardelli Chocolate locations throughout the airport that are great places to pick up a treat for yourself or to share.

Terminals 2 and 3 have yoga rooms complete with mats. These locations also make great places for quiet reflection as do the meditation and reading rooms.

The Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum inside the International Terminal is a great place to learn about aviation's history. While research librarians will be glad to assist you in doing research, you need to visit this location to see how an airport terminal looked in the 1930s. It is also the oldest part of the San Francisco airport. In addition, the airport has about 30 museum-quality exhibits located throughout the facility.

Things You Will Hate About the San Francisco Airport

No one ever said that they like San Francisco's fog when it came time to catch a flight unless they wanted to spend longer with their loved ones. The fog leads to many delayed flights at this location.

Security can get backed up severely. While international passengers are just going to have to stand in line, those flying within the United States can try another terminal. Since they all connect with each other, it does not matter where passengers go through the line. Lines at Terminal 2 usually being shorter. International passengers can try to avoid the busiest times which are early in the morning, while those staying in the United States may want to think about avoiding early afternoon flights.

Things to Do at San Francisco Airport

Look for the pig at the airport. Her name is Lilou, and she would love for you to pet her. Volunteers also bring about 20 dogs to the airport regularly. They will have on red vests inviting you to pet them. Each terminal has its own treasure hunt. Get the information from the information desk or at a kiosk located near the information desk. From 8 AM to 8 PM you can return to the desk once you have found all the locations for a prize.

History of the San Francisco Airport

The San Francisco airport first opened in 1927. It was located in the middle of a cow pasture and was called Mills Field Municipal Airport. It was to be temporary because no one was convinced that people would be interested in flying.
